Om den första april ett regn

Short movie | 24 minutes

In a single, continuous 23-minute long take, Anna and Maria navigate the complexities of their troubled relationship.

Anna proposes a game—a seemingly simple act that quickly spirals into an unpredictable chain of events, revealing the fragile nature of their bond.

The short film's setting alternates between domestic and natural outdoor environments, symbolizing emotional states of confinement and openness. The use of long takes and continuous shots enhances audience immersion, creating a sense of flow and realism in the emotional narrative.

The camera's movement delicately balances the tension between the two protagonists, maintaining a subtle distance yet constantly hinting at the potential for emotional eruption. This approach heightens the tension, allowing the film to build toward moments of emotional release.

Documentary

In the wings

Documentary | 60 minutes

For Heinz and his fellow actors, rehearsing a play is no longer what it used to be. The gradual loss of memory—forgetting lines, plot details, and even the names of co-actors—brings about profound changes.

Each member of the ensemble copes with the situation in their own unique way.

While Heinz finds solace in revisiting the past and cherished memories, others remain grounded in a fragmented present, seeking new ways to anchor their performances.

Through conversations, mutual support, and shared determination, the ensemble demonstrates their resilience, proving that even under the weight of memory loss, the show must go on.

Based on an ethnographic field study both onstage and behind the scenes, the film “In the Wings” explores the interplay between memory loss, dementia, and the creative process.

It offers an audiovisual investigation into how these challenges shape not only the performance but also the lives of those who bring it to the stage.
